The Paradox of Child Happiness

I used to believe disparities created unhappiness but travelling around the world, I kept noticing a counter-intuitive phenomenon over and over again:
No matter where you go, the happiest children will always be found in poverty and children born into privilege are invariably miserable, anxious and lonely.

As I was trying (failing) to buy happiness at the time, I became obsessed with figuring out the seemingly illogical nature of child happiness. I think I get it now; it's a function of (perceived) debts owed.

Children are happy in poverty because the world doesn't owe them anything. They're carefree as no one cares enough to make them suffer to please, keep up appearances, behave themselves, live up to expectations or reach their full potential. There's no obligation or pressure; in poverty they have nothing to lose so they live without fear.
Unlike the children of privilege, slum kids are happy because they're more or less free.
If my theory is correct, the way to ensure misery would be to lean on children to make them conform to some ostensible standard of successful behaviour, leading them to believe they're then entitled to what the world will never owe them. Make them suffer to please you and they'll spend their lives in angst, fuming at perceived insults and injustices, keeping markers, threatening payback, at war with a world they imagine is disrespecting them when the truth is, no one could possibly care. As the unpaid 'debts' mount, they'll be overwhelmed. Misery and conflict will be all they know.

Elliot Rodger was led to believe he was entitled to what the world would never owe him. Someone misled him.
To ensure happiness, you'd simply tell children the truth: The world owes them nothing. They're not entitled to anything from their fellow humans. Life is what they choose to make of it. There is no fairness, justice or equality; any they receive is just a bonus. If allowed to respect themselves and treat themselves Right, children won't grow up imagining the world owes them unpaid debts, leaving them free to have fun instead.

The Last of the Humans

Nearly everyone is psychotic. Their thoughts and feelings are not in sync with reality. This is what happens when children are raised with lies and violence.

Might is Right

What disturbed me about this video wasn't the bullying so much as the reaction to it. They really thought it was funny. Later they're going to take some candy off a baby because they can. Fist pumps all round.

Humans reflect the environment in which they were raised and in a world where children are betrayed by lies and violence when they're impressionable, this sort of thing has to be expected. It's funny how broken minds perceive Right and Wrong; parents will wring their hands over the Bullying Epidemic and in the next breath, ferociously assert the need for children to be made to respect their elders. Or else!

Or else the elders will bully them. But people don't see corporal punishment (or emotional manipulation, even traumatic shaming, coercion or fraud) as bullying. You can explain why it's bullying but they know what they've been told and they haven't been told it's bullying so...the Bullying Epidemic looks set to be around for awhile.

The vast majority of people cannot feel empathy as a result of OFC dysfunction (which I believe is the result of traumatic shaming of the sort that made us start wearing clothes, stunting the development of impressionable minds). They can watch cruelty and graphic violence without flinching, they themselves inflict suffering empathy would preempt; almost everyone has been disconnected from the main, clods washed out to sea on their own.  To regulate their behavior, laws and rules are required. Without empathy, humans cannot be humane. Incapable of feeling the pain they inflict, they perceive advantage in disadvantaging others and for the vast majority, their idea of fun is making other people suffer. Their behavior is loosely regulated by an ad hoc moral compass that, when the steam of rhetoric has evaporated, will always boil down to "Because I can". When the illusory restrictions of Law and Order are lifted, Nanking gets raped. That's the reality. Polite Society is the fantasy.

It doesn't help that most children are raised by authoritarian figures who are always right because they're holding the rod and they Know Best, an argument they will gladly emphasise with their rod of Authority.

It's a Toddler world.

Religious Leaders Always Call for Tolerance

But the Toddlers never listen.

Toddler mothers freeze the emotional development of their children at the age of [toddler]. Their bodies grow, their intellect develops but they remain needy, emotional Toddlers for life.

The above is especially insightful because when Toddlers are given authority to misbehave, they throw themselves into it as if they were waiting for the chance their entire lives. Genocide, war crimes, police brutality, domestic violence, violent discipline; "You will respect my authority!"

Religion 101. You Toddlers are Special, entitled Toddlers. The heathen Toddlers are not Special. They must convert or die. Onwards religious Toddlers.

Religion is just a pretext for Toddler malice; rape, murder, theft, violence.

Here are some Bangladeshi Police Toddlers communicating with Bangladeshi Muslim Toddlers. The Toddler Police are just following orders, of course; but with disturbing vigour and enthusiasm.

Fighting to Survive.

World Airways Evacuation From Da Nang To Saigon in 1975.

Of the 268 humans that managed to board the flight, 261 were men. There were five women and only two children.

I have a theory about survival; I believe the reaction humans have to dying is provably counter-intuitive.

The more miserable, pain-filled and disconnected humans are from Humanity the more viciously they will fight to remain alive. The more happy, fulfilled and connected they are; the more willingly humans will die to save the lives of others.

That's my theory, in any case; and if it is correct, I suspect it'd be due to the phenomenon of sunk costs. The more pain and suffering has been invested into a life, the harder the invested human will fight to survive.

Have you ever been so happy you knew you could just die right then and it'd be fine?

Cultural Bloodlust.

I was in Spain a few years ago and I went to see a bullfight. I'd never seen one before and I was keen to see the underdog win. The first thing that disturbed me was how everyone was cheering for the matador. I filmed a couple minutes as the bull charged the horse (who had no beef with the bull but the bull didn't understand why it was being stabbed to death). Then we left as we didn't understand why it was being stabbed to death either. It's just a gorefest. I put the video on YouTube where it has a couple hundred thousand views and yesterday someone asked a question that gave me pause. It did strike me as strange that the horse was so quiet so I looked into it.

Explanation taken from catcahelpanimals.org:
The horses used in the bullfights are old ones sold for few coins to the bullfighters. Their vocal cords are mutilated without any anaesthetic so they cannot neigh in fear, especially after been stabbed by the bull horns. This is so that the audience is not aware that the animals are suffering.
When the bullfight is going to start, the horse is mute, blindfolded with vaseline and cotton in their ears and nose holes; without it's senses. The horse's back is covered by a peto (sort of thin blanket) and ridden by the "picador" (the man with the "puya'). The whole puya gets inserted 3 to 4 times into the bull's back and moved in circles, so the bulls gets 3 or 4 wounds, 14 cms deep and up to 45 cms of diameter.
As the bull tries to defend itself, it strikes only to penetrate (with its horns) the horse's neck or stomach. If the horse doesn't die, it is taken into the plaza, where its insides are inserted back into its stomach with hay then sewn with rope or wire without any anaesthetic, painkillers or antibiotics.
The horse is then sent back into the bullring to be ridden again until it drops dead. If by the end of the day the horse is still alive, it is slaughtered by the butcher behind the bullring and its meat is sold as dog food. Sometimes, up to 6 horses have been killed by one single bull.
The most numbers of horses killed by a single bull, happened few decades ago, and 11 horses laid slowly dying on the bloody arena.

After the picador is finished with it's "puya", then come the "banderillero" who carries the dreadful "banderillas''. These ones are stuck in the bull's neck and back muscles to weaken. Each bull gets between four to six banderillas. With each movement the harpoon rips off the muscles making it extremely painful.
After the banderillero finish his business comes the coward "matador", who exhausts the bull with a red cape. When the bull gets too weak the matador gets the sword and attempts to stab the bull through its heart. But many times they fail and get the lungs instead, so the bull starts to vomit blood. When this happens, the matador gets a small knife (puntilla), and stabs the bull through it's spinal cord (and continues until the bull falls).
But many times the bull doesn't die after the 40 to 45 minutes of torture in the bullring; because the puntilla often doesn't kill but just paralyses the bull. So later on when the bull is getting his skin ripped off by the butcher, he suddenly "awakens" and tries to run away.
In Spain alone, more than 30,000 bulls are killed this way every year.
This is a sadistic business maintained by a handful of powerful people in all these countries, but you can make the difference by not attending this barbaric spectacles and not buying their souvenirs and magazines.
People are disgusting.
